Restoring America: Constitution or Prayers?

These are troubling times for America and the problems we face are haunting our friends and allies as well. The entire world is changing, just as it always has. Did anyone really think it was going to remain the same? Change is not the problem but the direction of change is. Those who are working to do bad things are working much harder than those who oppose them. This is just reality. ISIS, the socialists, the immigrants with hands out making demands, all are actively working to get what they want. The American victims of the encroachments go about their daily lives grumbling about it. Do you see any protests today or any growing organizations filled with active, determined opposition? I don’t. One million showed in Denver to celebrate the Broncos, where are 10 gathered to demand constitutional government? I see a lot of people telling us to pray for America hoping that God will somehow intervene on their behalf, doing what they refuse to do for themselves.

God must be infinitely more frustrated than any of us. As a parent who taught my kids to be strong, principled and self-reliant I can imagine what God must be thinking as he watches us sit like meek subjects while begging for help. Isnt it ironic that Americans who are offended by those who refuse to work while expecting full care pray for God to restore the nation they will not work to restore themselves? Is there a difference? Yes the Good People of America are hard workers. They are willing to work long days and do whatever it takes to achieve personal success, but how much work do they do to care for the Golden American Goose they rely upon? At some point wed better care for the Goose.

I see a lot of praying and good intentions but we are living the reality of the road to hell being paved with good intentions. We cannot wish away or pray away our national ills; we must work, just as we must work for anything else worth having. When you get a job do you pray the work gets done so you can be paid or do you perform the work? Why in the world would God reward us with a great nation when we are not doing the work required to maintain one? America today is not complicated, those doing the work are getting the changes they seek, those who oppose the direction are not doing the work required to stop them. This is simple folks.

Imagine for a moment you are in Gods place knowing what He knows of our past and hearing the prayers of today. He saw Washington, Adams, Franklin and all who fought, died and sacrificed for us to have this chance. He rewarded their efforts and we inherited their treasure. We must look like the lazy kids on the couch squandering an inheritance while crying for someone to do what we will not do for ourselves. I wonder what Christians expect as a solution from God, have they not read their Bible or our history? Both contain many stories of God intervening on behalf of the faithful, in every case it was after incredible death and destruction. Why not?

How else is mankind to learn from our mistakes? After all, God knows we all die sometime, what difference does timing make to Him? In case after case great wars and the resulting famine and damage weeded out populations removing the bad influences and those who created the disaster. A thinning of the herd so survivors now sober of thought and discipline can start over. How many prayers were heard leading to those events before God finally decided to let us reap what we sowed? This reminds me of my own father, frustrated with us brats squabbling and him sternly telling us, Don’t make me come up there! We knew to fix our problems quickly. Do we REALLY want God to have to fix this? Haven’t we seen how He does it? He gives us every chance first then takes care of business in a very final way, and it happens every time.

I dont blame Him, we have no excuses.

So here we are again, what must be in the mind of God as He hears so many prayers for saving America? I know what Id be thinking in His place: What more can I do for you people? I allowed your Founders and their war dead to provide a great nation for you. I let you have leaders who gave you a Constitution to ensure YOU always had the final say in your government. You feared 2 parties would rise and take over so the leaders I gave you added a Bill of Rights so you could remove any party, any leader at any time to save what I had given you. I have allowed you to miraculously prevail in every conflict that threatened your existence. I made sure that every time of great danger provided you with the people, Generals and leaders to be victorious. I have provided you with more than any people ever had and you ignore your own Founders and Constitution.

Bad leaders rise, you let them stay. Two parties did as your Founders warned and you help them do it. They serve themselves and you serve them. You ignore your rights to remove them and wonder why they remain. You say someone should do something but it is always someone else. You ignore your daily duty of vigilance and stewardship coming forth only to vote occasionally and go quietly back to your comforts. You know they break laws while enforcing them against you and you let them stay. You know you have a Constitution and do not bother learning it. You know you have rights but surrender them. You know the parties are bad and you refuse to fire them. You know government is for sale and you elect those whom are purchased. They use my Word as a campaign prop and you flock to them even as they deceive.

And now you sit and pray for me to save you so you don’t have to.

Your Founders acted to do what was right and prayed for the strength and wisdom to succeed. They received my blessings. You refuse to act as you pray for miracles. I have always helped those who helped themselves. It is not my action you wait for, it is your own. I am not the one letting you down.

F. Lynn Vogel is an Iowa native, father and lifelong patriotic historian. Raised as the son of two well-informed historians he immersed himself in the small family library one room of their home was dedicated to. As an adult most of his work was in manufacturing and product development which then led to consulting and restructuring manufacturing companies struggling in a changing global economic environment. It was there he followed his fathers footsteps into writing and radio work but with a focus on historical aspects of our politics, founding and Constitution which he had studied while getting his formal business training. He is now dedicated to restoring the constitutional greatness of America for future generations, in honor of those who provided so much for us.
