Conservative voters have had three huge victories in my lifetime.
In EVERY case, those voters told the Republican’t Party to “Shut up and get out of our way because we are ignoring you and doing this ourselves!”
1. In 1979 when the party fought hard to stop Reagan and nominate Bush Sr. Reagan won because of voters ignoring the party. So, the party acted like THEY invented Reagan. They used his coattails then went right back to screwing the base.
2. In 2010 the Tea Party stormed the GOP political scene fueled by constant promotional support from right wing media. Media stars sold books, packed rallies and cashed in on TP subscribers buying extra broadcast hours and political merchandise.
The party got record boosts in donations and active support. The resurgence of political action and attention to our Constitution was a beautiful thing. BUT- the party was slowly absorbing and gaining influence in the movement, with right wing media help.
As soon as conservative voter efforts scored historical wins, taking 63 House seats and 7 in the Senate, media and the party killed the Tea Party. They were too afraid of it’s growing power launching a new party to replace the GOP. They used the TP, cashed in on it and threw it away to protect the Republican’t plantation.
3. TRUMP– MAGA! 2016. We all know this one. A huge field of almost 20 professional GOP politicians fought for nomination in 2015. Right wing media and some party powers wanted the groomed Bushite establishment darling, Rafael “Ted” Cruz. We wanted Trump.
We won, Trump won. Through the campaign season the party used Trump’s powerful coattails to gain full control of Congress. A big GOP victory delivered, once again, by voters who told the party to go pound sand, we’re not backing your guy, we want MAGA!
And once again the party blew it. After voters accomplished great things for the party, the party failed us. And Trump. They ride Trump coattails at every opportunity then go back to screwing the base and losing to Dems.
The only three times conservatives & patriotic voters were victorious they had to defy and overrule the Republican’t Party to do it. In each case the party came back to erode the wins then lose power back to the Demonrats they always manage to empower.
We need a new party. Wanting to save or restore the GOP is not wisdom, it is brainwashing that ignores the very obvious history of Republican’t treachery.
